Why people choose microsuction

Microsuction is a dry technique carried out under direct vision, widely used in specialist ear care. It is a safe, widely used method when performed by a trained clinician, and there are no syringes and no water pushed into the ear.

Water-free

Nothing is flushed into the ear canal, which many people find more comfortable and far less messy than old-style syringing. It also suits people who have been told to keep their ears dry.

Seen, not guessed

The clinician watches the wax leave the canal through magnification for the whole procedure, working precisely and without hurry. You can ask questions at any point.

Usually well tolerated

You will hear the suction working, and a few people find the sound odd for a moment. Most describe the feeling as strange rather than sore, and it is over within minutes.

Your appointment, start to finish

1
A proper look firstBoth ears are checked with a lighted scope before anything else happens. The pharmacist explains what they can see and whether removal is actually needed.
2
The wax comes outFine suction lifts the wax away under direct vision, no water involved. Most visits take around twenty to thirty minutes from sitting down to leaving.
3
Aftercare that sticksA final check of the canal, a look at what came out if you are curious, and plain advice on keeping your ears comfortable in future.

A local answer to a common problem

Ear wax removal is no longer a core GP service in most areas. Locally, NHS access is referral-based and restricted, which leaves a lot of people in Urmston waiting with a blocked ear and no clear route to getting it sorted.

That is why Davyhulme Pharmacy runs this clinic. It is a short walk from Urmston town centre, there is no referral to chase, and appointments are available through the week plus Saturday mornings. The service is for adults aged 18 and over.

People who visit us most often include hearing aid wearers whose devices whistle or sound muffled, regular earbud and earplug users, swimmers, and older adults whose wax has become firm and dry over time.

Honest by design

Some visits reveal ears that do not actually need clearing. When that happens we tell you plainly, charge nothing, and explain what is really going on, whether that is a cold, an ear infection that needs your GP, or simply normal ears.

Quick answers

How much does it cost?

£40 for one ear, £60 for both. That covers the examination, the removal and aftercare advice. If we find no wax that needs removing, there is no fee. Full details on our prices page.

Do I need to see my GP first?

No. Book directly online or call 0161 748 3016. Most people also soften their wax with olive oil for three to five days first, which our preparation guide explains, including when softening is not suitable.

Does microsuction hurt?

It is usually well tolerated. You will hear the suction close to your eardrum, which some people find noisy for a few moments, but it should not be painful. Read more on our microsuction page.
